Could this be a criminal thing? Or a simple mistake?

Probably a mistake- from what it sounds like, there may have been rat posioning at some factory where the wheat gluten was processed. Because of the chemical, it had to have been in another country. Someone could have accidently dropped it in, or it fell off a shelf, etc.

If the company used Rat meat instead of the Turkey/Chicken meat listed and the rats had been contaminated it is possible that the poison was then ingested by companion animals thru the food product. Another theory as far as I am concerned is a disgruntled employee could have deliberately added the poison to the food knowing there would be a major recall, animal death and financial loss to the company.Mistakes happen, however, rat poison should not be near any food production facility...for whatever reason.

It got in it because the poison is also a cacer-fighter,they didnt know it would kill s o many innocent animal lives.I hope I helped you in your question.
