.. how is that a justification for mass slavery and oppression?

To say that is as riduculous as to say "Well Black people killed each other in Rwanda.. so lets commit Genocide as well and import lots of Blacks to the UK and USA and slaughter them en masse as they have done it to themselves already!"

Even if it is a FACT .. why state it over an over again unless people are trying to justify slavery. Even if Blacks did enslave Blacks one thing is for certain.. THEY DID NOT ENSLAVE WHITES!

To all those who keep saying this should be forgotten about and assigned to the past.. I do not see you telling Jewish people the same thing about the Holocaust and there are reminders of this daily.. just watch UK History Channel,. National Geo, etc , etc!!!

When I say that Black people did not enslave whites I mean it in the sense of them not being as horrid as to have done something as systematic as what the whites did.. nothing to do with their lack of means to do so.

I came back from Rwanda and Uganda 2 months ago and White colonisation is the root cause of the Genocide that happened in Rwanda. Period!

England, Portugal and the Dutch were slave traders for centuries. And for those who say slaves were traded in African as well, you need to learn some history. The slaves that were kept by their fellow Africans were treated well, fed, not brutalized as women slaves were in America, could marry into the families that owned them, and were allowed to work off the debt if they owed one, then go free.

Also, as far as Rwanda is concerned, look into what started the whole Hutu against Tutsi massacre in 94', it all started with the Dutch. In fact if you study the real story of many conflicts going on in African nations, you will see that they started with European colonization from some time ago.

Do they justify it like that I have not heard anybody justifying slavery and every body I know thinks that it was wrong. Not that it is a subject that gets talked about a lot.I believe the first people to have slaves were the ancient Egyptians who enslaved the Nubian's to be involved in building the pyramids etc. The Romans enslaved people as did a lot of the dark ages Scandinavian tribes. Not all of this early slavery involved black people. The middle Ages saw exploration of the World and in Africa the European explorers saw the enslavement of black people by Arabs and did the same.By today

i might argue that the top does justify the flexibility, confident the white don't have achieved what they did, however the blacks have been already enslaving eachother for 1000's of years in the previous the white guy ever have been given around to enslaving them. What regularly occurring Lee meant with the help of that assertion is that blacks have been reason of the conflict interior the south. Which grew to become into no longer untrue on the time. As for you asserting that the Caribs in no way had the prospect to construct up the Americas. it extremely is purely flat out untrue, that they had 10,000 years to do purely that. the only civilizations that got here out of the americas in the previous the white guy confirmed up have been the Cherokees, Mayas and the Aztecs. did you comprehend that the folk in Haiti are nonetheless affected by that earthquake? do you comprehend the clarification why? that's because of fact they're lazy, they might fairly have the 1st international spend lots of materials purely keeping them alive then they might studying a thank you to thrive on their very own... that's symptomatic of a much bigger concern, they black and latin american community as an entire did no longer come from a place the place they had to construct issues to stay to tell the tale. They weren't worried approximately freezing to dying in a Russian wintry climate, or coming up with a speedy thank you to traverse distances because of fact they only did no longer might desire to or because of fact they could no longer pave a highway interior the Amazon woodland or they have been so wrapped up in traditions that they did no longer see the needed advancements they had to make. additionally: they have been battling among themselves continuously. Yu won't be able to assume to get something achieved in case you're constantly battling... Germany is a appropriate occasion of this I"m no longer excusing what the europeans did yet there is genuinely NO way that the folk residing interior the international places they had conquered might have ever been in a position to attain what the white human beings had. us of a has genuinely long previous down hill, yet it extremely is via the undesirable coverage makers we've sitting in government, no longer because of fact slavery diminished the black artwork stress's ethical.

whenever I have heard or seen people stating this, the impression I have always got is not that they were/are trying to justify slavery, which can never be justified, but that they were trying to move a discussion on from a simple 'white oppressor/black oppressed' argument. This was never the case, as people in Africa did co-operate with the slavers, even going to war to deliberately catch people to sell.
It is also interesting, as one person has pointed out, that such discussions rarely move on to the fact that people are still enslaved today, both white and black-contact Oxfam or TEAR Fund for more info.

Yes, thats an age old arguement. But what is often ommitted are the facts surrounding black on black slavery. Often when a tribe at war with another was victorious, they would enslave the survivors but their understanding of slavery was vastly different from European slavery. Slaves were often treated as members of the family, having the freedom to come and go and travel about the village. They were also allowed to buy back their freedom over a period of time, much like indentured servants. I'm not condoning slavery in any form, but obviously there were completely different cultural connotations.

I dont think they are justifying slavery its just a historical fact.

Whites have enslaved whites in the second world also have commited genocide right up to the 1990s in the Balkan war. Slavery can never be justified. But i am not going to apologise for it just as i would not expect a German person to apologise for there countrys behavior in the past. It was not our fault

When people point out the fact that Africans used their own as slaves and sold/traded them into slavery, it's usually not to 'justify' slavery. There is no way to justify it. To attempt to especially using that argument is ridiculous, yes. But, it's usually stated to point out the fact that slavery existed outside of the United States and beyond just white and black.

In response to your extra comment, I don't think Africans at the time were in the position to enslave white people. If they were in that kind of position, I doubt they'd have been trading their own people to whites.

It isn't. What's usually meant is that leverage politics is in play so this is cited to it's limit. Not as a pervasive cover argument. Anybody who still thinks slavery is okay has a deficient throught process. It is still very much practiced in the world in none too subtle forms. This is what I find most irritating in people. Nobody seems up to addressing this commonly observed fact worldwide.

unfortunately.... this all happened a very very long time ago, and there is nothing neither you or I could do about it...... so why must we keep bringing this topic up? leave it in the HISTORY books where it belongs so we can all learn of our mistakes by reading about it, not fighting about it. Does it make your (or anybody Else's) life different today because of slavery a hundred or more years ago. Its time to move on and change your future because that's something we can all change

There is no justification for slavery. Poor people didn't own slaves. Only rich people. But it is in the past. We must build a bridge and get over it.

I think that you are missing the point of the argument that they are making. They are not justifying it but merely pointing out that there is plenty of blame to go around for the ills of slavery. If you told me Whites were responsible for all forms of genocide because of Hitler trying to exterminate the Jews and I pointed out to you that there were earlier instances of genocide I am not justifying genocide but trying to point out the weakness of your argument. Agree with me that slavery in every form is terrible and should be not be condoned or tolerated. There should be no need to assign blame for slavery, it was an accepted societal ill that we have thankfully left behind us.
