There's no real science to the diving catch, but there are some helpful tips. First, whenever running for any fly ball, especially running full speed try to run on the balls, or even kind of on your toes, especially as the ball gets close to you. That will keep the ball from appearing to jump up and down. Also, I'd suggest as an outfielder never have your index finger hanging out of your glove. On a head first dive with your glove extending in front of you puts that finger sticking out in danger of being bent back by the ground. Try putting the pinky and ring finger in the pinky hole of the glove, and move each finger over one. (except the thumb) It feels weird but you'll get used to it. It also makes the glove sit more on the end of your fingers, giving you a couple more inches of length. (and we all want that) As far as dives you could just have someone toss you some balls from about 50 feet or so and just practice running them down and diving. Batting practice is a great time to work on outfielding. Good luck!
