I did when I was young- All I heard was the sea. Because I was at the beach (you can hear it with or without the shell) :-)

We went to the beach once and my ex picked up a conch shell, held it to her ear and said, Oooooh, I can hear the ocean. I said, " No kidding, Goonball, you're standing right next to it."

yea...i live by the beach, so its so much fun when you can hear all the different types of noise
