My 8 week old has been sleeping through the night for two weeks. She is usually alert most of the day, taking cat naps here and there. She is still sleeping through the night, but for the past three days, she sleeps all day, too. She was fussy the first day, but now, she just wants to sleep. She has no fever, and a very minor cough. I called the doc, and they said just to keep an eye on her, but shes my first, I am just scared I am missing something! My husband has a bad cold, and I am starting to get it, could she just be fighting off the cold? Should I call the doctor back? (Its been 2 days since I talked to them) Thanks for your help!

I would call the Dr. back. Sounds like she's sleeping too much. She should be seen by the Dr. as well. Good Luck!

Baby's can catch a cold too. Make sure everyone washes their hands well and frequently, this can help to stop transmission. Keep an eye on her closely like they said. If you notice fever (>100.4 or higher) or if she stops eating or really irritable give them a call back. I wouldn't use any medicine, that could mask symptoms. She is too young for most medicines anyway. So please don't use anything w/o her seeing the doctor first and they ok it.

If she is still eating regularly and having regular wet/dirty diapers, she is probably fine. Keep an eye on her and take her temp if you think she is developing a fever. If you are really worried just call the doctor back and speak to them again....thats what they're there for! :)

babys especilly less than 12 months are more prone to getting sicker faster. so be very carefull she might end up catching it stay away from her as much as possible if you have it.also ask the doc if theres something she can take to prevent her from getting it.and yeah keep a CLOSE eye on her.i knoiw how it is with our first baby

Cough is caused by a number of ailments.
It can be treated by over the counter medicines

I wouldn't be too worried about it. With a newborn, you want to start worrying if she's not eating. Let her sleep it off, hopefully she won't get anymore symptoms.

Get a second opinion. You should always take babies to the doctor when there habits change drastically.
