going up all the trees. It is not pretty, but a nuisance. I'm afraid it will start killing the trees and they will fall on my house. Is there anything that will kill it?

The easiest and most environmentally safe way to kill any weeds is with boiling water. It does however mean planning ahead and have one pot of water on stove while using second or even third pot of water on weeds. Pour the boiling water onto the base of the ivy where it touches the ground. It might take more than one day of doing this to totally kill the roots of the weeds. You do however have to be careful if you are near roots of wanted plants or trees. I have cleared a yard full of weeds this way when we couldn't use any other product due to pets and small kids.

Whatever you use I would talk to the next door neighbor first. Killing your side of the problem will effect their side in some way, small or large scale. Killing her side too could cause major problems between the two of you and possibly a law suit if she is the suing type.
If you bring up the problem to her she may be willing to pay or split the difference with you on the taking out of the plant.

You will also need to keep constant trimming of the ivy to avoid the same problem in the future. She will need to maintain her side to keep it from yours.

Round up and weed killer at the root. dont just spray the ivy it will only kill that piece and will still continue to grow, spray at the root, however if its growing near something like a tree or plant that you dont want affected, I wouldnt spray there, I would try to pull it out and rotertil the area to break up any peices of root left. Ivy is a brat to get rid of!
