I listened to this song for 30 yrs be for I caught this did you know this was even a word? GAVOTTE?

The Lyrics to your so vain
You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself GAVOTTE
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and....

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't you?

You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive
Well you said that we made such a pretty pair
and that you would never leave

But you gave away the things you loved and one of them was me
I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee, clouds in my coffee and....

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you.....

I hadn't noticed that word in that familiar song but it makes sense. Gavotte is a french dance in 2/4 time. The word is usually used as a title or in reference to a movement or section of a larger musical work of classical music.

ga·votte (gə-vŏt') pronunciation
n.

1. A French peasant dance of Baroque origin in moderately quick duple meter.
2. Music for this dance.

[French, from Provençal gavoto, from gavot, native of the Alps, possibly from gava, crop of a bird, from Vulgar Latin *gaba, gullet, throat.]
gavotte ga·votte' v.

It's new to me.... good times

Why on earth would Carly Simon slip a French word into her song???

Makes no sense at all!!!

I'm just gonna have to give Carly a call and find out for myself, won't I?

Thanks for the head start buddy lol!

Carly Simon's "You're So Vain"

I know it well

She's changing the pronunciation of 'cavort' to fit the music.

cavort fits
