(That is if she has a brother, do you think the man should ask him for her hand in marriage?)

If she doesn't have a father or a brother, she probably has a strong male influence in her life. With no obviious people to ask, you might have to face the scrutiny of her mother and grandpartents.

While it is still a beautiful form of respect to ask a father for his daughter's hand in marriage. I would say the next person in line should be the mother. If the mother is not there, and she has a brother than if you like... it would still be acceptable. But, while the thought and action is an old tradition and form of respect it is thoughtful but in today's society no longer widely practiced or necessary.

Are you forgetting her remaining parent? What the heck? Ask her Mother not her brother! This 2007 a brother has no say to a sister anymore-if you are going to do it then do it right and ask the Mother.

Just remember a woman doesn't need a man to say its okay for her to get married -I hope your finacee' has a sense of humor about it-I would not.

It would probably be a good idea to ask the girl first.
