Last Monday I had sex with a man whose counterparts were fairly large (compared to me). It was very painful for me considering I hadn't been sexually active in a while.

Anyway, shortly afterwards I noticed that I was very sore and a little bit itchy. I was even bleeding but after a few days I came to the conclusion that it was just the beginning of my menstrual cycle.

Now, my period is gone but the itchiness and soreness still continues. I woke up this morning and I am very, very swollen to the point where I'm scared and concerned. I have discharge but there is no odor or bumps. It's just the excessive swelling and soreness that's frightening me.

I know that there's something wrong, but I'm afraid to tell my friends or family. Plus, where do I go for help? Should I be screened for an STD at a clinic first or should I see a gyno about the swelling?

Some swelling and itching can be caused by irritation and trauma to the surrounding labial tissue. You may have suffered a small tear at the introitus (vaginal opening) and this would cause some pain, swelling, and itching as it heals.
On the other hand, if you didn't use a condom this man may have passed along a yeast infection. That could be the cause for the itching and discharge. Discharge from a yeast infection is white-ish and has an odor to it.

The discharge concerns me. If it continues beyond Sunday I would advise you to follow up with your OB/Gyne. It's best to see someone who knows you by history or can start the process of doing so. Call and make the appt. today if you can and if it clears you can always cancel or keep it to discuss possible allergies to the latex condom or spermicide that you (hopefully) used.
IF they tell you that there is no available appt. for that MD/Nurse Practitioner then ask for a referral to someone who is available or ask them if they keep any emergency slots open for such an issue.
I've worked for many clinic physicians and there was NEVER one who didn't save time slots for emergencies.

You could take an anti-histamine tonight to see if that helps with the swelling and itching.

Hope this clears up. I know you're worried.

The source listed may help in deciding if it is a yeast infection and will discuss the most popular treatment options available.

Sounds to me like you have a good old fashioned nasty yeast infection, which can happen after sex, particularly if you didn't clean up right away. Yeast infections can be caused by excessive moisture, which we all know happens during sex. Either that you "road rash" which happens during rough sex or with large men. It's like a rug burn. I would do to a gyno, just to make sure. Especially if it doesn't get better after a few days.

I would definitely go to the GYN, they can look at the swelling and most likely test for STD's as well. Good Luck!
