I am 38 weeks today with my first baby! And I was wondering about losing my mucus plug. I havent yet i dont think, i have had heavier discharge but i read that the plug would be tinged in red or brown blood, is that true in all cases can you lose it with out knowing or is it so big that you would have no doubt? also i was wondering about my babies movement is it true that the baby stops moving when you are about to go into labor and while you are in labor or will i still feel her squirming around??

Thanks for your answers!!

I just had my daughter Makenzi last wedensday (the 14th) and she was still moving around while I was in active labor.I was only 37 weeks 1 day pregnant. I lost part of my mucus plug like a week before I went into labor, and then the rest of it 2 nights before...it didnt have any color or kind of blood in it at all... My water broke at 6:15 in the morning, and she was wiggling around the whole way to the hospital, and the whole rest of the day... her movements did slow down in the days leading to labor... but never stopped. and now she still likes to wiggle around! lol. Good luck with your pregnancy, and hope your deliver goes as smoothly as mine did! God bless!

As far as the mucous plug, I think that's different for everybody and every pregnancy. I think some people never even see it. I've heard some people say they definitely knew when they had it. I, on the other hand, think I saw a tiny bit with my first pregnancy but it was still a few weeks before I delivered. And I never saw one with my 2nd pregnancy. As for the baby's movement, I have heard that they stop moving when you're in heavy labor because they're locked into position, and it's probably too hard for them to move much during contractions. i was induced, so I never went into regular labor. But once my contractions started pretty good, I think the baby moved in between contractions, but not much during them. But maybe I just didn't notice.

The mucus plug looks like snot. You will lose a little at a time or the whole thing at once. You will know it when you see it.
The baby does slow down movements a little towards term, when you are in Labor your baby might wiggle more because it is being pushed down in a smaller area.
You will do fine, it is the best thing that could ever happen to you!!!!! Good Luck :)

It is true that you could lose your mucus plug without even knowing it. From my own experience about baby's movement, my kids always settled down just prior to my going into labor. They still moved, just alot less.
Take care and get all the rest you can before the baby comes. ;)

Your cervical secretions thicken up anyway before labor , but the mucus plug (if it comes out all at once) looks like a blob of hair gel...the reason it sometimes has blood in it is that there are tiny capillaries in your cervix that start to burst when your plug separates from it...and yes you can lose it w/o knowing it, sometimes women lose it in the shower or toilet or whatever...and you can also lose it in pieces and clumps (yeah gross I know).

The mucus plug thing is different for everyone. With my first kid, it just happened to come out on the toilet paper when I wiped after peeing. I only looked at it because my contractions had already started. I could just as easily have flushed it down the toilet and never known.

With my second one, I was on my back in bed when I felt a little fluid bubbling up down there. I had the hubby bring me a washcloth to use as I waddled to the bathroom for a pad, and never even got any on my panties. The plug itself evidently came out later on the pads they have you on in the hospital bed, because I don't recall a thing about it and it was never mentioned.

And yes, the babies do generally quiet down a few days before delivery. Not for everybody, but for most. It's like they are hunkering down to get their rest before the stress of delivery.

i had my first baby six months ago,i went nearly forty one weeks, i never noticed the mucus plug, and my waters didn't break until about thirty minutes before he arrived, when your full term there's not really much room to move about that's why you don't feel as much movement, although if you haven't felt ANY movement i would get it checked out. when i was five months i fell down some steps and the MW told me i should be feeling at least ten movements in every twenty four hours, but if i remember rightly i did notice any movement when i was in labour

your mucous plug may or may not come out in one go. mine came out about 2 weeks before i had my son.....there was no blood or brown tinge to it it was clean, so you might not notice that you have lost it if it come out in bits, like if your going to the toilet or something, as far as the baby moving when you are in labour, my son was still moving until i was in well established labour about half way through, but that was due to his size (he was 4kg and 54cm long), so he didn't have a lot of room to move, but yes as rule of thumb your baby will stop moving the further down the birth canal it gets. I hope this has been helpful.........
You will get a lot more mucous coming out once you have lost the plug also

CONGRATS first of all, it is soooooo exciting!! I had to get my water broken and I felt it very very well... felt like a gallon of water. My friend on the other hand had a leak and didnt even know it. My son didnt stop moving even when I was 6 cms... but again my water never broke so it might be different. Well hope this helped and again CONGRATS and good luck on a safe and not too tough delivery!
