Classic goth bands are The Cure, Bauhaus, Morrissey, the Smiths, Peter Murphy, The Sisters of Mercy, Switchblade Symphony...
The goth scene now leans a lot more toward industrial, with bands like Front Line Assembly, KMFDM, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Type O Negative, Front 242, and a lot of German bands like And One, Die Krupps and Nitzer Ebb. Also very popular in the goth scene are synth pop bands. Most noteably, VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, Wolfsheim, Covenent, Beborn Beton and wumpscut.
