Am a gay and have known since the age of 11. I am 17 and am a straight acting guy and 'am in the closet'. I have a crush on this Chinese guy who seems to be straight. He plays Basketball, hangs out with mostly guys. I have class with him everyday and he has recently started talking to me one to one, which gets difficult especially when it comes to eye contact. Is there anyway of finding out if a guy is gay without exposing yourself? Or how do I avoid someone who I have class with and is bound to talk to me every now and again? I don't even know this guy well and do not wish to because he is sort of in the 'gangster' social group which is just not me so I do not think we could be friends. Please help.

From the feedback I have gotten let me clarify I few things:
a) We can not change our sexuality like we can change are hair. I was born that way.
b) I have a crush on him obviously because of his looks and his freindly personality which I do not get from others.
c) Both sides of the family I very religious and probably will throw me out if I did. I do not want that!

You cannot live your life based on a lie, its time to come out and start enjoying yourself. We are not in the dark ages anymore. You will then be able to mix with peole who you know are available (or not )without any shame involved.Be happy you only have one life!!

Do you really want to tell this guy about your feelings? When you are not sure of his reaction, it is better to get to know him better. Let him open up to you, and someday when both of you are comfortable, try to find his opinion on homosexuality. If he is an open hearted guy, maybe you will be better off explaining your feelings to him. He might feel hurt that you did not tell him earlier, but in that case, let him know you needed to be able to trust him. In case he turns out the other way, maybe you will have to let this pass. He will never be right for you. And, lastly, there maybe a chace where even he is gay... you couldn't have asked for more now could you?

I'm not sure if there is a possible answer to your two questions. When I see an attractive guy, I think to myself that there are a dime a dozen of them out there, and try to not think about the one currently on my mind.
Finding out if someone is gay can be tricky. I'm a shy person so I could never approach someone I like and asking them directly. I like to lead up to a topic or subject letting them know that I might be gay/bi. Like maybe asking what they're doing this weekend, and then maybe say your friend ivited you out to a club(suggested a gay club). See how the guy reacts and maybe if he knows the club he might suspect you are gay, but that would be exposing yourself.
Maybe have a girl friend ask for you, or maybe mention to this Asian guy that they know someone who likes him. Then not to mention your name, but maybe just say it's a guy and see how he reacts.

just tell people you are gay - theres nothing to be worried about it'l come out sooner or later and then if this guy is gay he will tell you.

its only a crush, it'll pass with time.
One of my friends is in a simillar situation and he can't do anything about it, so he's just waiting for his feelings for this guy to pass.
don't worry about him, you'll get over it sooner than you think!
