And no, I am not advocating child abuse..I'm simply talking about the quick slug your parents might give you for being a pest.
It always worked when my mom did it!

Getting my butt spanked really worked, my dad would at times make us kids pick our own branch from the pear tree and bring it to him. Did he ever go over into abuse nope not once but the spankings worked.

I have 3 kids have I spanked them? yes, at times but not often I guess I am lucky that the few times I did spank them they never wanted to go thru it again so just a look from me lets them know they are pushing it.

I did try taking away privilages with my oldest but that never worked. No matter what I took away he never cared about that it made no difference.

I agree 110%. My folks used to tear my behind up, and I gotta say, I deserved every one of them. I was a bad kid. Mom was the worst, she didn't use a belt. She would go outside and get one of those "switches" off her flower bush. Ouch that thing stung like a thousand bees. I'm not advocating beating a child, but there is a big difference in spanking and beating. If my folks hadn't "slapped my butt" every once in a while, I'd either be in jail or dead today. I'm grateful today for every one of those spankings. And every one of them had love in them. I'm just sorry that the tradition seems to have gone out of style

Be careful advocating slapping or spanking a child on here....you could get black balled by the younger generation.
Time out is a phony way of not having to deal with the problem in the first place. Just get them out of your sight. My mothers' SPANK did more for me than any time out...it only took one and I got an immediate attitude adjustment and I wanted back in her good graces quick!

When I was growing up - there was no such thing as time out
As an adult raising children today - I don't believe in negotiating with kids as some parents do. If you are doing something that you are not supposed to be doing - you are getting popped for it.

I don't advocate child abuse either but spanking or lightly reprimanding your children is not abuse. It establishes the rules of parenting.

The quick spank certainly taught me not to do whatever I had done again - Kids get away with too much these days and you are correct - there is a big difference between a spanking and child abuse, but the PC squad do not seem to be able to differentiate

Yes I agree actually...I went to a private school where you got a swat even if you just forgot your homework or got a low great. I was a 4.0 stupid and I have never ever in my entire life been arrested, tried drugs, smoked, rebelled and have had a very successful life because it made you think..DAMN, this must really be imporatant if my teachers are willing to go to this extreme to get kids attentions.

I agree what your saying..its not the same as child abuse and people are not educated enough to realise the difference

I agree that spanking your newborn on the backside or popping their hand is positive as long as its no longer in severe stress or on the face while a newborn does incorrect. I even have faith the relationship including your little ones might desire to have a miles better stability of compliment and love. the government might desire to have not any say on that. If the government needs to label somebody a foul discern for disciplining their teenagers they might desire to look into the becoming crime value and scarcity of accountability teenagers take for his or her movements for the reason that "day out" grew to alter into the politically stunning form of disciplining teenagers. If the government needs to step in and take the stunning punishing your newborn now, then the government might desire to arise with a extra effective plan to rehabilitate criminals in our over crowed jails and prisons. I even have faith mum and dad might desire to provide up making excuses or blaming others for his or her teenagers movements in college or in spite of.

Oh the good old days!!!
My grandma raised me and she used to spank the crap out of me (well deserved let me tell you) and I came out alright. My friend on the other hand, used to get time outs...she turned out to be a rebel who didn't finish school and has no respect towards older people. What a shame!

I can't remember all of the reasons I was grounded but to this day I can tell you why my mom spanked me and I know not to do that ever again. You only have to do it once to get it right.

The good old days are over sir. Don't raise your hand but instead take away their priviledges until they get back on track. Say no television, staying up late, going out, using the internet...and etc.
