Gor me, it is Elton John's Compilation that I like the best ... (from contemporarily written pieces), and for classical -- I got a 3 CD Compilation of the London Symphony's that was a real winner (With Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart favorites on it).
Then for movies ... I have liked several ... The Phantom of the Opera Soundtrack is one of my favorites (and for quirkiness -- the one from Hoodwinked .. somehow those songs are catchy and grow on a person).

i would have to say the soundtrack for school of rock..the cd was filled with good classic rock songs
