My electric was off for a week while I was out of town; the apts fridge/freezer is infested BAD;how do i deal? Im talking fruit flies and baby tiny roaches. Thousands; they are now frozen/chillled again, and they have come out into the restof the kitchen, but what I saw when I bravely/stupidly opened the freezer..... rotted food, decomposing meat, millions of dead things and a smell that makes me want to camp out at the sewage plant. It's the apartment's fridge; im on my own. What do I do? Im screwed! Can I don a mask and clean it? with what? Anyone know what to do? Im not sure I could even pay for someone to fix this mess.... What a disaster!

i use to work for a cleaning company that specialized in major damages like this.
1- take everything out even if it means defrosting the suckers
2-move the fridge away from the wall
3- take the tray from the underside of the fridge out (it's on the outside)
4- unplug the fridge
5- take out the shelves and bends
6-hot water and bleach (1 cup to 1gallon of water)
7- vacuum the back of the fridge ( eggs are back there get it good)
8-clean the pan that was under the fridge
9- if you can lean the fridge back against the counter and vacuum or clean it as best as you can
10- put back the inside and the pan
11- unplug everything in your apartment
12-turn off gas-water or heat
13- bug bomb your house with the fridge still out
don't forget to open all cabinets and closet
don't forget to buy enough to get the whole house

this stuff should get you threw till the manager can get a bug crew in there and if you tried to get a pro it's gonna cost you so just do it your self buy gloves too and put the fridge back aginst the wall

Hold your breath and dump EVERYTHING into the nearest trash can. then wash with hot water and bleach [use latex gloves] about a 1/4 cup per gallon of water should do it. as for the ones that have escaped, most communities require the land lord to spray regularly . Contact your unit manager and in the mean time....Black Flag......under the counters and the fridge ,too.

Was the electrical failure at the apartment complex level? Or was it something you did?

If at the apartment level - not your fault you were gone. I would ak them for assistance in replacing the fridge.

If at your level, honestly I would throw the fridge away and buy a new one.

have you checked with your local district attorney to see if this really is your problem to solve alone? it seems they might help, otherwise, sounds to me like i would shop around for a used replacement refridgerator and get rid of that one...i know it's the apt.'s but there have got to be some limits to what they can make you put up with. good luck
