I am 11 weeks and 6 days prego with my first child and Im so excited..Im trying to do everything right..Eat right, Drink right, be stress free, exercise a few times a week and get plenty of rest when im not working. Only question I have is everyone that has been preg before me (my friends) keeps telling me to sleep on my left side. It will help the baby. I really to try to stay on my left side all night but it seems that when I do that I have pore circulation. I wake up and my feet or hands are swollen..My body hurts. So without me realizing alot of mornings I wake up on my back or my right side. Does anyone have any advise for this. Am I being told correctly to only sleep on my left side. Its best for the baby?

left side is best but wont hurt the baby if you sleep on your right, the thing is, the left side is actually where the baby gets the best blood circulation/oxygen. Try your best not to sleep on your back though, blood has a lot of trouble flowing that way... and as you get bigger you will feel all that pressure on your lungs... NOT FUN!! I would suggest putting a pillow between your legs, helped me A LOT!! I actually had 5 pillows by my 3rd trimester, one under belly, one between legs, one under neck and 2 under head!! Would take me 20 mins to get comfortable but I did! CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK!!

You need to sleep on the left side once you hit 15 weeks. The reason is it helps you circulation and the baby's circulation because of your main arteries.

The swelling is normal and it does hurt. It is all fluid that you will pass eventually. Try not to sleep on your hands and not in the air. It cut down the circulation as well. Keep your arms down when you sleep and no pressure on them. It really does help.

Have fun, it will be over before you know it!

I know that when I was pregnant with my twins they told me to lie on my left side as often as possible, but that was because they were having some blood circulation problems between eachother and that i guess helps sometimes, but if your pregnancy is going good and no problems you can lay on whatever side you want to, and if laying on your left side is causing problems for you i would highly suggest you don't do it. Ask your doctor next time you go, i am sure he will tell you the same thing because you don't want to have a lot of swelling.

Congrats! It sounds like you are taking wonderful care of yourself, that's refreshing to hear! You will be fine if you sleep on your left or right side. It's recommended that you sleep on your left side because it is supposed to be the most comfortable for you- if you lay on your right, the baby may be pressing on your liver. You are not supposed to lie on your back because it makes it harder for the baby to get oxygen. Most of this does apply more when the baby is larger, but it's good to get into the habit of it now. It might help if you sleep with a pillow between your legs. Later in pregnancy, this will make you much more comfortable and now, it will make it harder for your to roll onto your back without noticing it.

Like I said, you sound like you are taking great care of yourself and I'm sure you will have a happy, healthy baby to thank you for it! Also, another WONDERFUL place to ask questions of other moms, is: momtomomchat.com. That place has been my savior!

Some doctors specifically recommend that pregnant women sleep on the left side. Because your liver is on the right side of your abdomen, lying on your left side helps keep the uterus off that large organ. Ask what your doctor recommends - in most cases, lying on either side should do the trick and help take some pressure off your back.

Your body is perfectly capable of telling you what is right FOR YOU! Most of us change positions numerous times during the night -pregnant or not- and that is normal.

Don't worry you will shift to a position that is good for both of you. There is also really no reason to even try to avoid laying on your back until the third trimester.

At 11 weeks it doesnt matter.

When you get a little further along, the weight of the baby can block main blood vessels...

Sleep how you sleep best... you need as much sleep as you can get! at 11 weeks, i think i was sleeping like 14 hours/day!

I have heard that sleepign on your side is better for the baby because it helps the blood flow better. After so long it's better not to sleep on your back because it can slow the flow of blood to your baby.
