I keep getting this error messafe (literally every second, right after I get out of the old one) that says:

"The file or directory C:/DOCUME~1\Jake\ntuser.dat.LOG is corrupt and undreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility."

So, I went to start-run-Chkdsk, and it runs and says:

The type of the file system is NTFS.

WARNING! F parameter not specified.
Running CHKDSK in read-only mode.

Deleting corrupt attribute record (128, "")
from file record segment 58571.

it repeats the last two lines a bunch of times, with the final number changing every repetition. Then a counter appears at the bottom, goes to 100%, and then the DOS window closes, and the error message comes back up.

What should I do? I've already rebooted my computer a bunch of times

open a command prompt ( click start/run cmd ) this should open an old dos box looking window. type in chkdsk /f, then answer yes to the next question about next boot. re-boot computer. it will try to fix problem on next boot. you already tried this but try again with THIS command "chkdsk /F"

If this fails to solve the problem, then login as administrator, this will be a completely different user login and will therefore use a different ntuser.dat file.
delete the old user that you were using and create a new user account.

what is happening is that you have HD issues that really need to be addressed. There is a great software program called SpinRite located at www.grc.com that can fix all these kinds of HD problems, it costs $60 but you will never need another HD repair program again. I have used it for over 15 years and works wonders and have repaired hundreds of HD's using this great software. This is a very clear warning that you may need a new HD, pay attention to the warning signs.

If you still have the original CD boot from the CD by holding the control key down when you boot up and the select advanced bios settings then first boot from cd then save and exit. put the cd in the drive then power off. reboot and the system should boot from the cd drive instead of the HDD . At the prompt which will read something like rewrite or repair select repair and let it run - when finished power down and reboot holding the control key and change the bios settings back to first boot from HDD save and exit. - reboot. should be ok.
