Think about the people you are going to be around and what type of activities they might be interested in . What they do for a living. What books they might read. Have something planned to say about each category. if you can get a conversation going, you won't be so self-conscious and stand there thining "oh, my god. what should I do. they're looking at me. Or nobody is looking at me." etc.

Just think about the positive things about yourself. Pretend that you are the most important person in the world. Maybe for your first time trying this drink a little bit, it will help you loosen up. Just remember people really don't care what you do so don't care what they think they are only worrying about themselves. Life is too short just think lets go WACKO and CRAZY. I think if you try to be yourself things will go much better then if you don't talk, because then at least people can get a taste of your personality and if they don't like you screw them thats their problem. You can't please everyone anyway. Good luck....I hope that helped.

read the secret by rhonda byrne. you need to be more positive about yourself. you could most definitely bring about great conversations and you need to feel confident you can do that. apparently some people in the past haven't appreciated your input. you should get a little esteem, even if you have to fake it at first. pretend you are acting a part. maybe that'll help take the edge off. just pretend you are an actor and the people don't know you. that should help maybe just a little.

Start small, gather with a few friends, become close to them. Then take one or two of them along to bigger events to help you get comfortable and talk to people. As you develop experience talking to people you don't know, you'll feel more confident and hopefully no longer need "backup."
