Absolutely. For two reasons.
1) Even if you can't come back I am assuming you can send valueable pieces of science back home. Especially, if you manage to land at an interesting location like the martian south pole.
2) Your name would live forever. Vanity you might say, and I would reply, you betcha.

Well.. an interesting q of my pvt life.
It all started when we read a caption on the science reporter mag... I and my friend lila, did agreed upon to sign up for it, until we realised that it was a LIVELY part of a science fiction story. Idiotic it may sound... but we are 100% satisfied for that, we DARED to gather up the GUTs to go for it.
Magazine : Science reporter
Issue : November, 2005
Page no : 46
Story : Clonestein

Caption (shortened) :
"WANTED VOLUNTEERS

Answers you get might depend on the age of the answerer.
But I've seen enough of this planet.
In fact, I just settle going up in the Space Shuttle and blowing up like the Challenger or Columbia.
Cause we all gotta go, and that would be going out in style.

Yes, I'd go. Can I bring my kids? We'd be colonists. And if We can go with a team of other astronauts, that makes the decision even easier.

Yes I really go for it , since my ambition is to lend my life, love, soul, dreams and everything else to universe [Its true].
I really love to spend my life in universe[mars] rather than in our planet earth. And also i like to have friendship with aliens and travel all over the GALAXY with aliens in UFO.

As long as there's some sort of base there, there are the right specialists, and a way of long distance communication to Earth...

YES. I can leave in the morning! lol

Hi. Are you kidding? I don't even have a tattoo, much less permanently giving up my place here on this beautiful planet. But lots of folks would.

That would be pretty neat.

Like someone said - Everybody dies, but not everyone truly lives.

I think it would be worth it!! (As long as I had a suicide pill or something, and didn't just die when I ran out of air).

NO. I'm not into suicide.

If I could live out a normal lifespan on Mars -- WITH companions, I MIGHT think about it.
