My parents had a camper and when they moved, they didn't want to take it with them, so they knew me and my husband liked it and asked if we wanted to buy it. We said okay and they said to just pay them a little bit each month on it. Well, after a year, we had only used it once. We still owe like $4000 on it, so I told my parents we really weren't using it so they could sell it to someone who WOULD use it. They said okay. We stopped making monthly payments because we told them we don't want it and I've been advertising it, desperately trying to sell it for them, but my problem is this.. We came into some money and bought a cute little houseboat (which we use EVERY weekend) and I'm afraid of telling my parents we bought it because I'm afraid it will seem wrong to them that we bought the boat and just gave up on the camper. We haven't told them about the boat... Is that silly??

well u could have finished paying for the camper then sold it and got the money for urself instead of putting ur parents in a position where they have to worry about selling it to someone else when u have promised to buy it in the first place. and it d have been wiser if u havent stopped paying ur parents even if u werent using it..that s fair..

It is silly! You told them you didnt use the camper so why not tell them you bought a house boat that makes you happy and you use! I don't think it should make them mad. Plus it isnt a huge issue and its not worth hiding or lying about. You shouldnt be ashamed of it. Just enjoy it! Relax. Invite your parents for a small get-together on it. They will have a blast. Good luck!

As a parent who has been in a situation very similar to this, without a doubt it's wrong. You have breached a contract and were it with anyone other than family, you could (and most likely would) find yourself in court. Even worse, you have lied to (and still are deceiving) your parents.

Come clean with your parents and if you can't sell the camper, then accept your responsibility and honor the contract you had with them. Redo your budget, stop looking for "instant gratification" in life and become a responsible adult.

Yes it is silly. Tell them about it. They shouldn't feel bad. I mean they don't want the camper either. I mean obviously if you like the water more than camping, they shouldn't say anything. If they do just say well you didn't want it either! If they get mad they are just being a little too immature.

you know its wrong or you wouldn't be on here looking for sumone to tell you that what you are doing or did is right. the funny thing about parents is: we just want our children to be happy. so if you go to your mother and father and tell them of your efforts to sell the camper, and of your decision to buy something that you really want and would use,i'm betting that they would give you another reprieval as they have done all of your life. god bless you sweetheart! your in my prayers!

I don't think that you are wrong. It seems like your parents didn't want it and now you don't so you bought something that you did want.
