The moon does not move in a circle, so its distance to the center of the Earth is not constant. The distance varies from 363104km ("perigee") to 405696km ("apogee"). Rigorously speaking, tho orbit is a slowly moving ellipse, with the major axis of 384400km (the average of the two values above). One can use this last value as the average distance to the moon; the rigorous answer is a bit more complicated than this, due to the different times spent at each distance (the moon moves faster at perigee and slower at apogee). According to NASA, this is 378000km.
I gave these values in kilometers, since these are the units used by the International Astronomical Union, and are the official units in every country except US. In miles, these distances are:
perigee: 225622mi
apogee: 252088mi
Semiaxis: 238855mi
Average distance: 234878mi

About 240,000 Miles.
I know this as i heard the space shuttle would need to go 1000 time further than it usually goes to get there.
