Nope, they work fine together. But be careful because some formatting differences can occur between Word and Writer. Also some Excel functions can differ.

So far mine works great. I've been using them together for three years now. I use Open Office because as a freelance journalist, I have to send and receive stuff from so many different programs and Open Office opens or can save to just about everything! I also have Microsoft office, but I don't use it much. Open office is so much more flexible in some areas that I need.

unlike Microsoft ANYTHING......OpenOffice installs ALL it's files into it's own directory. Very compact and clean......runs great with any other app. MS Windows has a habbit of playing havoc, but I think that is M$'s way of keeping their customers!!! It's a conspiracy man!
