I have moved out of a condo I was renting my lease was up 3/31/07 we rented a new place the previuos landlord found a tenant to move in on the 15th of the month so he let us out of our lease I wrote him a prorated check for the month and now the new tenant has backed out hes charging me the remainder of the month and wont give my deposit back if any has an answer please let me know I feel trapped

Was it verbal when he told you you can break your lease and pro-rate your rent for March? I would take him to a small claims court if he doesn't give your deposit back. You seem to have a good case especially if everything you did was on paper.

if i understand -- you moved out 2 weeks before your lease was up the 15th instead of the 31st. The landlord allowed
you to do so because he found someone to move in however the person backed out--andswer 1 i agree you owe the entire months rent----however he is not returning your security deposit--this is unfair even if he was to deduct the 2 weeks and mail use the balance but to keep the entire amount is stupid and if e registered letter dont get it small claims court will

I would agree that you owe him for two weeks of the last month and whatever damage that existed in the unit when you moved out. That sound right to you?
