I have to agree with hellraiser...Macca has a prolific talent and produced a lot of interesting and important music - both Rock & Pop genres.

Now that being said, he also produced a substantial share of rubbish, but in contrast, Lennon's genius was quirky, and while he wrote some amazing material until his death, it was far different than what McCartney was doing, and so it's hard to really compare them - except within the context of them both having been Beatles and former writing partners.

I don't think there's any merit in choosing one at the expense of the other. Of course have your favorite, but it doesn't mean the other was shite.

Hey, I'm just listening to McCartney- 'Young Boy', off the Flaming Pie album... you've got to dig Lennon for the image, he was the man... and he had great songs, though I don't have any of his albums just yet, and the only ones I can name off the top of my head are 'Jealous Guy' and 'Power to the People'... oh yeah, and 'Imagine'... come to think of it, I only have McCartney's album because I picked it up in a charity shop at a dirt cheap price... Lennon's you have to pay top whack for, what could that mean? There are so many of Paul's discs out there they they're seeping out everywhere... or it couldn't be sold at the proper shop, so the charity crew had a go? Flaming Pie is decent, but I have an earlier 'Best of' for McCartney, also picked up on charity, and you sort of shudder to listen to it... it's like "This is his best?" It doesn't bode too well for the rest...

Yeah, I vote for Lennon- that's one good lookin' star... and, though I don't know much of his solo material, admittedly, the stuff I do know can beat Mull of Kintyre and the Frog Chorus. Ebony and Ivory's a good song though... ah well...

Paul Mccartney solo and with Wings was massive in the 70s and if you look at the Record sales Paul outsold John with ease until Johns Death. Also Paul had a better wife too in Linda, one in a million, yoko, well enough said!!!

John Lennon . Imagine is a classic while Paul wrote Mary had a little lamb and Mull of Kintire. Wings were not very good , "band on the run" being the only reasonable song i can remember.
