I took my 9month old daughter to the dr today for her checkup. The dr. said to finish out whatever baby food I have left and then start giving the baby table food. Everything that we eat, she can eat with teh exception of eggs, honey, peanut butter, and seafood. I feel nervous about doing this. What do you think? What kind of things can I give her for breakfast since I rarely eat breakfast myself?

My daughter has been eating table foods since she was 8 months. It won't be a problem as long as you make sure everything is in pieces small enough for her. I don't eat breakfast either. I usually make my daughter toast or some egg yolks (no whites). Sometimes I just give her a handful of cereal like Cheerios or Fruit Loops.

By the time all of my children were ten months they were eating pure table food...what ever I ate. This is fine...just as long as you eat healthy. The baby should have balanced meals...each with a grain, a protein, and a fruit or vege. Some good ideas for breakfast are bagels with all fruit, cheerios and some kind of fruit, rice puffs and fruit, oatmeal and fruit, or cereal bars. My son is 4 and he still loves the Gerber Flakes cereal. At first when you begin you may want to mash it a little for a few weeks so he can get used of the consistancy. Then just cut everything real small.

Not sure where your from but if it's Uk then weetabix is great for breakfast - you can use full fat cows milk or baby milk - pop in micro wave for about 40 sec to take the chill off stir well and there you go! Toast if she has teeth or make up a pan of porridge (plain no sugar or salt) when cooked dish up into baby pots and put in freezer / fridge(3 days max). You can then re-heat each pot add a bit of banana or apple etc..
Eggs are fine as far as I'm aware, def no honey but I was told 12 mths not 2..? We don't eat it anyway! Avoid things high in salt like gravy granules etc.. but every thing in moderation is perfectly fine. Millie has never had a jar of baby food in her life, I think it takes a lot of work to keep organised but so much healthier than packets

We never bought baby food for our son. We just cooked our own food at home and put it in the food processor. As he got older and was eating a larger variety of foods, we started running whatever WE were eating through the food processor. Then as he progressed a little more (around 8-9 months) we stopped blending his food and just cut it into small pieces. He eats like a champ and he will eat ANYTHING!

Some examples of meals we used:

breakfast
- Oatmeal and applesauce (don't use instant oatmeal, it has a lot of added sodium)
- Waffles, pancakes or french toast with sliced fruit (normally a pear of banana)
- Cherrios (with milk...we introduced dairy before one year with no problems) and a sliced banana

Snack
- baby granola bar and sliced fruit
- a cup of yogurt and some crackers (we buy organic dairy...no hormones in the milk!)

Lunch
- toasted cheese sandwhich and peas
- bagel with cream cheese and fruit
- home made mac and cheese with applesauce

Dinner
- whatever the rest of the family is eating!

Just start out slow and introduce one or two new things at a time. Everyone introduces table foods at different times, just do what feels right.

Your doctor was right. Make sure you pay special attention though to the things the doctor said not to give your baby. You don't want your baby to have honey due to the potential of getting botulism and if they have peanut butter too early they can develop an allergy to peanuts...I guess the same must apply to eggs and seafood. Stick with easy things like mashed potatoes, veggies, very small pieces of chicken and beef...they love finger foods like cereal....

Give your baby yogurt, oatmeal or dry cereal for breakfast. You don't need to eat for your baby to eat...

Do some online research on this. She shouldn't have chocolate or milk until she is a year old, and I'm sure there are tons more restrictions. She CAN eat adult food, just not everything. For breakfast, I'm not sure why she couldn't have eggs, so double check on that. In the meantime, fruit, dry cereal, oatmeal, etc. Good luck!

Hi, I also had the same issue. Some options for breakfast: oatmeal or other hot cereals, long thin sliced banana (depending on teeth), even try some home-fries. If your in a jam there is nothing wrong with some 3rd stage baby foods like oatmeal with pears or other mixture. Hope this helps. I know you are concerned.

You're fine. It's ok. Our baby had table foods as well at that age. Just NO Honey.

As far as the other foods, you can introduce them to her one by one. The baby can eat them, but just in case she has allergies, you need to introduce them separately. This way you will know which one she may be allergic to.

Once again, NO Honey until 2. And make sure you give her food she can chew. Nothing hard to chew or smooth. (She can choke on grapes and hotdogs.)

Babies' tummys are like ours, only smaller. In another 9 months you won't worry about what she will eat, but rather her picky eatting behaviour. Good luck.

We started to give my daughter table food around 9-10 months, we even switched her to whole milk around then. She did great with table food. We would give her cooked carrots, green beans, mashed potatoes, pancakes...the easier things to chew. For breakfast I would give her toast if you don't make yourself breakfast, it's easy and my daughter loved it cut into four little triangles. She's 12 months now and that is still her favorite breakfast. I know you feel a little apprehensive about starting "Real Food" I also did, but just start in slowly and your daughter will do great! Good luck with it!

She can have whole grain (unenriched) toast... Oatmeal... bananas... other fruits.... really, whatever you want to give her. Eggs really are the best breakfast for little ones, but your dr is right... you should wait on that... you can actually soft-boil them and spoon feed her the yolk. (the white is the allergenic/hard to digest part) Lots of good fat in the yolk!

ETA:
You DO NOT need to avoid salt and spices and butter... its good for them to get used to how you eat and as long as you use salt in moderation (using sea salt would be even better!) there should be no problem. They need to have butter on veggies. Alot of vitamins are fat-soluable... giving just the veggie with no fat is basically useless.

Babyfood is basically useless... its like canned veggies. Severely lacking in nutrtion... fresh food is ALWAYS the best. Its best to start on it as soon as possible. My son never had baby food and he is just fine! She may gag a little at first... its not choking, thier gag reflex is up further than ours... they have to get used to solids and then it moves back.
