I was just wondering if anyone had ever had experience with taking seasonal allergy medications (like claritin) while taking birth control. I know that some medications make the birth control inneffective, and I was just wondering if this was one of them.

And for those of you who are rolling your eyes telling me to go to my doctor, I'm planning on it, but my schedule is extremely full for the next few weeks and I'm just wondering if anyone knows.

I just looked at a recent copy of the PDR (Physicians Desk Reference). According to it, Claritin and Allegra should not affect the birth control. Your mostly going to run into problems with birth control if you are taking antibiotics.

Allergy meds shouldnt affect your BCP but you could always call the pharmacy that filled it to be safe. The pharmacy should've asked if you were taking anyhtng else before filling it .Then told you of possible interactions when you got the allergy meds.

My doctor gave me Allegra(sp) and I am on birth control... no effect there for me.
It depends on what kind of birth control pill or otherwise you are on. If you are having issues you may want to try a mild one you can pick up at any store until you see your doctor.

people on here can give great answers but you don't KNOW that we're right. if you can't get in to see a doc just yet go and see your pharmacist, they know as much about medications as your doc will and if they dont know the answer they will find out for you. if you can't actually go in to see them for whatever reason, dial up a pharmacy and ask. it'll take about 2 minutes and you'll have a FOR SURE, LEGITIMATE answer! good luck!
