Because my roommate did it, and I don't know whether to be mad at her or not.

We have a tiny stackable unit.

Just for clarification, I'm worried about my washing machine and dryer, not her car's floor mats.

It's not something I would suggest. Tell her next time to hang them on the clothes line and spray them with a garden hose. That is a lot of dirt/sand that gets into the washer/dryer. I saw the after effect when someone did the same thing in our apartment complex.

Probably won't hurt your mats this time... but, I don't think that you should do that on a regular basis or the carpet fibers will pull loose and the mats themselves might get a bit bent. Don't think that your washer and dryer are equipped to handle doing that on a regular basis. I wouldn't be mad at your roomate... she probably didn't think it was a problem. Just scold her and tell her never ever to do it again.

Probably would not put them in the washer and dryer unless you have like a commercial grade unit. Try a water hose, soap and a brush

You can put them in there, depending on how durable your washer and dryer are- I do that with mine, but I would let it go this time, and ask her to not do it again if you don't like it. Or if your afraid it will tear it up.
