You're right, we sometimes get brash when someone cannot spell correctly . Sometimes it's because we didn't realize that the user was not American. . . but other times it's because we KNOW that the user is American and there's not much excuse for being illiterate, ignorant of the issues, and unable to push a little tiny button called SPELL-CHECK !!

Your point is well taken. . .Thank you !!

First, you might want to say, at the end of your posts, something like "Sorry for my poor English; it's my third language and I'm trying to learn it." That might forestall a lot of the comments.

Second, whenever you see insults or answers that don't answer the question, click Report Abuse and submit the resulting form. Yahoo might remove the posts, and dock the person points. Some repeat violators are banned.

Finally, I hate to say it, but your grammar could also use work -- more so than spelling. There's much that's written here that I simply don't follow. It's frustrating for us to have to keep rereading a post, and still not understand it.

As I said above, letting us know you're just learning English will at least let people know you aren't being careless and sloppy, but have tried your best.

BTW, a lot of Americans on this site actually criticize the English (whose language it originally was) for their spelling, not realizing that some words are spelled differently over there.

Please accept my apologies for the incredibly rude behavior of SOME Americans. I admire anyone who speaks more than one language. And English is more difficult than many other languages (or so I've heard). I have noticed that there are participants on Yahoo! Answers that feel the need to be insulting or they're just being smart-arses. And this seems to be in a variety of categories, so don't take it personnally , if you can help it. Please believe me when I say these negative people are the minority, overall, on an individual (one-on-one) level, American's aren't such bad folk. :) Oh, by the way, I see a whole lot of mis-spellings & really poor grammer on here (& else where) made by Americans whose mother-tongue is English, so don't even feel bad about your efforts!

I think it is admirable that you are learning the American language. There are plenty of Americans that do not speak the language properly and just as many that do not know how to spell either. As far as the name calling and the nasty comments go, IGNORE them! A fellow Yahoo! user told me to wear the insults like badges of honor, so I suggest the same! And while many others that read this may get annoyed (because I say this as often as the opportunity allows) know one thing....."you can tell more about a person form what they say about others than form what others say about them!" Peace!

Don't sweat it!

Some people just correct you out of politeness ...some do it to feel superior....for some it is sincerely a pet peeve to see some word not spelled correctly....and for some it is a way to dodge the question and attack your spelling because they don't want to answer the question....and for some it bothers them because Y!A provides "check spelling" for people when they answer or ask questions.
My pet peeve is when people make up words like "iiregardless" ....it is not a word!!!! The correct word is "regardless"!!

Wheeew! Thank you for letting me get that off my chest it has bothered me for sometime now!LOL!!!

Just out of curiosity what 3 languages do you speak and what is your native language?

Peace!
Be well!

Many people don't distinguish between those who don't speak the English language natively and are doing their best, and those who do speak English as their first language, and are simply too lazy or not-educated to get the spelling correct.

It's not the occasional typo -- that's inevitable. It's that some people aren't even trying, which makes their questions very difficult to read.

Don't take it personally. Very few are actually blaming those who are doing their best.

I understand that. All i would ask is that you use America, not america. It's a proper pronoun,so is always begun with a capital letter. You should also try to put your questions into a form that at least makes sense. There's a lot of questions posted that because they are incomplete or the words are misplaced nobody can understand.

And I admire your honesty and your effort.

I think you are doing great for your THIRD language!

Don't take it personally, most of us Americans don't really mind a few misspellings or errors. We get you. We know what you're saying, we understand.

It's the Americans that don't remember that their familys more than likely were from another country at some time in their geneology...

Don't know where you're from but when 12-20 million illegal immigrants invade the USA and get preferential treatment from our legislators and judiciary and law enforcement while we are paying the financial, economic, political, medical and educational costs, we tend to demand higher expectations from the people who are getting the benefits that we pay for.

Illegal immigrants have the benefit of free education, free English as a second language courses, and free medical care and free everything while they send their money back to their countries of origin. Is it too much to ask that you learn the language and how to spell our words, fly the American Flag, and adopt the customs of the people paying your bills?

Your question makes no sense. The horrible spelling has nothing to do with that fact. Grammar is what you should be studying...not spelling.
