In my fantasy league I have Chone Figgins as my starting 2B. With his broken finger, he wont be ready for opening day. My backup is Josh Barfield. Should I just plug him in as my 2B, or is he not good enough and I would then need to make a trade? What are your thoughts and opinions on Josh Barfield this year?

Don't worry about Figgins that much, as he is hoping to return by opening day against the Rangers. Broken fingers takes a couple of weeks to heal and Josh Barfield should fill-in nicely until Figgins returns. Barfield was recently inducted into the PROTRADE All-Unlucky team, where there production were suppose to be better than their final numbers suggested. Luck was all Barfield was lacking in San Diego, where he hit a respectable .280 but was suppose to challenge the .300 mark if he played somewhere else (he hit .241 in San Diego). That time came when he was traded to Cleveland for 3B Kevin Kouzmanoff, where he will thrive as a 20-20 threat for an energetic Cleveland offense. He has power, as 9 of his 13 HR came in the final 3 months of the season, and his age (24) has to be desireable enough to keep in the lineup with Figgins expected to bat 9th when he comes back for the Angels.

I wouldn't panic, Figgins shoud be ready for the season opener. Barfield should have a good year and a 20 hr/20 stolen bases type season is not a stretch and I truthfully think you do not need to make any trades regarding a 2nd baseman, you are pretty well covered.

Good luck and enjoy the season!

Barfield is and will be the real deal. Maybe not for fantasy, but in the "real world" he will help the Indians win games. Fantasy wise I think you may be OK with him, but I wouldnt go giving up a bunch to get another second baseman. When the season starts someone you never expected will start on fire. Be quick about paying attention to stats early on, put Figgins on your DL and bring on whatever firepower you can get.

Finger breaks can be devastating to a hitter, look what happened to Coco Crisp last year. I would make sure that you have two potential 2nd basemen, Barfield and maybe look at an Ian Kinsler? Just be careful, finger breaks can be tricky, and even if he comes back you might be looking at a Figgins who isnt at 100%

when you lose somebody you had feelings for it is hard to replace them. you'll just have to struggle through your depression. It probably feels like he tore your heart out when he left you.
