My sister and her best friend have a very close relationship for almost twenty years. The email or message each other every day and phone each other for extended conversations every week. They'd like to go for a short vacation trip together. (Both of them are straight.)
The problem is, that the best friend's husband get jealous fits, whenever the two them converse. And really hates the idea of them travelling together.
My family pressures my sister to back of and limit her contact with her best friend in order to keep that marriage going. I think, my sister and her friend have every right to stay in close contact and travel together and the husband is behaving overly jealous.
Am I way off in my opinion? Are bests friends commonly a problem in marriages?

No. They are not.
And the reason is, at least for me, I talk to my husband more than my best friend.
You say they text and phone eachother every day...
Are you sure they haven't hooked up before or three is not a relationship there (romantic/sexual/or otherwise)?
I can't imagine the husband would be as upset if he didn't think something was going on.
Maybe they've had a past relationship?

I think so!! Their's nothing wrong with having a best friend...but their needs to be balance. If you are neglecting your husband for a best friend than that's a problem. Just imagine if the husband had a best friend and they traveled together and talked to each other everyday. I don't think you would like that either. So balance is the key

I think that your family should back off. Not your sister. Your sister has done nothing wrong by having a best friend. Take action. Fight for your sister's and sister's friend's relationship. Your sister may never have one like that again. She shouldn't worry about the husband, he's just an over jealous jerk. I have one word for you and her....DIVORCE!!!!

My best friend IS my husband! I have friends I have grown up with and we are very close, but my husband comes first, and my friends know that, but its the same with them in their relationships. I've never had a problem going around with my friends, because I've made my husband feel secure and I've earned his trust, as he has mine.
