Actually, a good percentage of our founding fathers were aethists. Further, part of the reason people came to america was religious freedom and freedom FROM religion. Read more history books.

I'm a liberal and open minded. I would never generalize myself nor any other group of people. So all liberals do not hate all religious people. Jesse Ventura had a quote in Playboy magazine that said "Religion is for the weak minded." I think most liberals that you've experienced as "hating" religious people are mostly turned off by the lack of independence they have seen, especially with religious people. However, to assume that religious people are brainwashed into conservative ways is assuming that these individuals haven't made a choice in their thinking. Perhaps they have... most certainly they have. Religion isn't as oppressive as people think. Most people find it very rewarding. The beauty is that we all have the freedom to believe what we want to believe. They also have the freedom to make choices based upon their beliefs, including which laws they chose to vote for, the politicians they chose to elect, the right to preach their beliefs, etc. We elect people who have the same beliefs and are going to vote for laws that coincide with their beliefs. The beauty of democracy. As a liberal, I've found a lot of other liberals are upset that they are simply outnumbered in our democratic country. You can seperate church and state, but you can't seperate a person's mind & beliefs.

I once heard that religion is a force that makes people love God but hate each other. So true.

More importantly, why do you believe that liberals hate religious people? I'm liberal on a lot of subjects, so sometimes I'd be called a liberal. Most religious people have no original thoughts for themselves. Although they have their own bible, Koran, Torah, etc., they insist on believing what other people (preachers, priests, rabbi's, monks, etc) tell them what is in their books, rather than reading and understanding for themselves. In those cases, are you really hearing "the word" or one man's interpretation of that word? For example, in the bible you will find conflicting statements. An eye for an eye, and turn the other cheek. So, which do you follow? The individual can't think on their own, so they leave it up to the preacher to tell what to believe. Personally, I'm straight. There are gays in this world, and if you believe the bible, God put them there. But if you ask a priest, they are against gays, and hence the people who believe the words of the priest also hate gays. Yet, which is worse? A gay person dating another gay person, or a catholic priest molesting a young boy or girl?

I don't know anyone who is a liberal that hates religious people or religion. I do know some devout Christians who also happen to be liberals. The follow the teachings of Christ not just talk them and then do what they want. Maybe you hang with a different crowd.

If our fathers were found where were they? I didn't know they were lost? The people you are probably referring to are foundING fathers. Those last three letters completely change the sentence.

So,you're saying we should follow whatever our ancestors did?I don't think that was the intention for America. Our founding fathers told the people to think new ways as to keep it a free nation. They didn't say to take everything as it is.That's the path to a monarchy or dictatorship. It seems that's what's happening.People are getting lazy and allowing the leaders to go back to archaic ideals.

I don't hate religious people, but I think religion should be something personal.Anyways, the fathers of our nation were deists. They were very clear in the constitution about how they feel about religion and state mixing. If you're talking about the Pilgrims, that's another debate we can get into.

You live under two misconceptions. The first is that Liberals hate religion. What we do not like is when religious people try to force their opinions on us. The second is that the founding fathers were religious. Jefferson was totally anti-religious and Thomas Paine wrote "The Age of Reason" which refuted religion as well.

I think lunch period is over and you should go back to English class. It's obvious your lacking in the spelling area.

Besides that, your argument is weak. To make a sweeping accusation that all liberals hate "religous" people is ridiculous.
There are many liberals who are religious, but they police their own back yard instead of worrying about what everyone else does and don't try to drag religion into politics.

Not all liberals are atheist and obviously not all conservatives belive in God.
When it seems that the whole world is out to get my country at this time in history. I am getting very fed up with the people within my country who don't know how to be Americans. The people who only know how to keep this country divided against itself. There are left wing extremist who are doing just that. And there are right wing extremist who are doing just that. In my eyes there is no difference between the two. Both sides reveal nothing but contempt for the real people of this country. The working class. The working class is made up of both liberals and conservatives and they are desperate to unite against the extremes. But you extremist continuosly find ways to keep them divided.

Read "Godless: The Church of Liberalism" by Ann Coulter. That might help. LOL

Seriously, I think it's because liberals want us to become more like what Western Europe is now. It's very socialist and very Post-Christian. They want to define what's right and wrong, not let God or religious tradition define right and wrong. It's really just a continuation of the Original Sin -- man thinks he knows better than God.

I am not a liberal I am more conservative than anything I am a Christian and I believe there is a difference between being a Christian and being religious. Religious people follow all these rules they cant do that they cant do this etc. They lose the whole point of what the Bible is saying Jesus preached against religious people .

I can only tell why I hate religious people, one reason is they are all so sure that their make believe man in the sky is the right and good god, and all other are wrong and bad. All religious books are written by men not god's men interpreting their opinion of what their invisible great god said and meant. the other reason I can't stand religious people is they are so willing to take away my rights because they don't believe in them, point in case, when I don't want an abortion I don't have one, I don't bomb abortion clinics and try to pass laws which restrict other people from having one if they want one, if I read something I don't like, I put it down and I don't read it again, and I don't have that book in my house, I don't try and have the book banished so no one else can read it, if I see something on my TV I don't want to watch or don't want my kids to see, I block that channel, I don't try and have the show canceled and the stations fined for showing it, to many religious people believe you can only believe in their invisible magic god, and that is just not American!!
