If you taking of a card that you take to the local shop hand over a fiver then put your card in the meter, then yes it expensive your not only paying for your use your also paying the shop to pay your bill for you this they take a fee, bills for gas & electric are now the most expenstive part of every day living expense you can only try to be careful with your use and pay at the end of the month is going to be of the most benifit to you

Prepay meters are more expensive to run because you are paying for the meter as well!
However there is not a vast amount of difference and the prepay meter does ensure that you are not going to be faced with a large bill when you least expect it!

Yes it is its very expensive. Im putting £15 a week at the moment onto my gascard on a monday and u can guarentee by the friday im putting another fiver on, Itl be cheaper in the summer though and whether or not uve got a gas cooker and fire. I put £10 a week onto my electric key which seems to last as long as everyone remembers to switch the lights off when not in use and not leaving the telly on stand by etc etc.

It is not down to expense, as it will be the same cost (however I believe you still have to pay for the meter to be installed) It is down to convenience and it will be inconvenient if you have the job of topping-up the meter everytime it runs out and if its runs out, because you haven't checked the balance, then you could be plunged into darkness!

Apparently, the average family with a pre-pay electricity meter, pays around £180 more per year than someone paying through direct debit.
You pay more per unit, plus you pay rental for the meter.

No i don't think it is any more expensive then having a quarterly bill.

It's quite useful, in terms of knowing your budget, and spending.. and like said for before, they usually always put it in if you are arrears and take a quid or less (depends on their arrears) every time you use it.

I think the charge is the same, I know in my area they only used to install them if a person was in arrears. Not sure if this has changed and whether or not you can get them voluntarily.

Depends on the supplier, try a site like U switch so that you can compare.
