Because it buys them votes. That's really all they care about, VOTES!
And, OH YEAH, Strom Thurmond foreswore his bigotry when he LEFT the Democratic Party and became a REPUBLICAN!

I do believe that some Democrats do care about minoirties, and even their sincerity is doubtful at best. As for Byrd he chose the the Democratic party, not the other way around.
Thus I propose we create another party....The People's Party, who do not play into the lobbyist politcs of Washington.

Byrd is not a klan member he was as a very young man but disowned both the Klan and racism, why can't you learn the true history doesn't it "FIT" your agenda? By the way if we aren't forgiving then don't vote for Rudy the adulterer or Newt if he decides to run since we can't forgive and forget

Honestly I don't think either party "really" cares about minorities. The Republican Party basically gave up the sham of caring years ago. Unfortunately, my party continues to believe the charade and pretends that it is the party of minority America.
Just look at all the rich, white men in the House and Senate and you must realize that regardless of party, these two bodies primarily represent the interests of white, monied America...it's just that simple.

It is more than just Byrd. Dems do that to get their votes. Why minorities continue to fall for that ruse baffles me considering the lack of positive progress Dem's have delivered

Every group has a few bad apples.
But as a member of a minority )people with disabilities) I'll tell you this--we are better off when Democrats are making policy than when Republicans are calling the shots. The GOP talks a lot--but their actions show them to be hypocrites.

This sort of generalities is common to both liberal and conservative on this board.
Thankfully, there are those amongst both philosophies that take offense at these types of comments cloaked as questions.
There are so many actual issues regarding concern about minorities and even the poor that could be discussed here.
I hope you will take this as encouragement to give your questions/comments more thought and hopefully you will be repaid with honest and thoughtful responses.

One old man that's in office only because he's an old man?
What about the fact that the vast majority of the Klan identifies themselves as Republicans?

So, because one individual claims to be a member of the party, you want to hold the other 100 million accountable?

It's very simple: Without minorities there'd be no CO2 credits available for the Dem's to buy.
