Will America suffer the same fate as the Roman Empire?

Is the U.S. desire for permanent global hegemony going to be the cause of it's ultimate collapse? At what point will the American military forces reach a breaking point? Why does the U.S. government insist on imposing its own preffered form of government on other nations with different traditions, values and religious beliefs? This is not a partisan question, as both Republicans AND Democrats have been major proponents of Pax Americana. Why do they not realize the futility of empire building by looking at ancient Rome? Rome eventually conquered more territory than it was able to protect, overextending its armed forces and thus leaving it vulnerable to the land hungry Germanic barbarians from the north. They had to eventually resort to recruiting many of those German invaders, who often were more loyal to their tribes than to Rome. Eventually the Germanic peoples did overrun them and the empire collapsed. Or they could look at Spain, Britain, or the Soviet Union as well.

Romulusnr, by the time the Roman empire collapsed it had adopted Christianity. Just by claiming God is on your side doesn't make it so.

Your question is both extremely relevant and interesting. The parallels you've outlined are flawless. I've pondered these exact same thoughts for years and I often wondered if anyone else did. Modern America and ancient Rome are precisely convex and concave of the same problems- imperialism and arrogant ambition. I love this country for many reasons, but at the same time I understand that every time I board an airliner or go up the elevator in a tall building, that I and many other people who don't share King George's views are potential targets because he doesn't understand that not ALL other nations care for our particular brand of governance or religious beliefs. Rationalizing to a falsehood is the hallmark of the current administrations policies, and only time will tell if this ill-fated hegemony becomes what looks like the self-fulfilling prophecy that those who fail to learn from history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them. Good question. Inevitable fate of all "artificially" created entities like: Roman, Ottoman, British empire, USSR and others. Unfortunately greed concurs all other reasoning and logic. The collapse is a natural outcome that not only the global US "empire" will collapse but also the internal artificial social structure.

Indeed it is possible exactly what happened to the Roman Empire, with taking in more people who were not roman, and again the same is happening with the US, why allow muslims in the US, its like if you tried to emigrate to a Muslim country, would they give forms in your language the right to set up new churches etc etc, I do not think so, but we have to bend over backwards take in people who eventually just want to destroy our way of life.
