They don't need to report your taxes as you are not an employee of this business. They are scamming you out of your SSN for fraudulent purposes.

The URL is HTTPS, which usually means it's secured, it gives me the secure icon, and it's signed by GoDaddy.com which is a big domain name provider. You should be able to find the icon that looks like a lock in the lower right corner. If you double click, it should give you more info on how the site is verified.
It does look safe, but I like to talk to someone from a company before they get my SSN.

well, theres no real way to tell if you're being scammed or not, unless you find people who report cases of identity fraud from whomever you're working for. It truly boils down to your disgression, but if you'd like, and your trade of reading emails isn't "less than legal," you could look it up on a federal website as a legitimate business, Google will have to help you there.
