My cat was deathly ill a few weeks ago and was hopsitalized for about a week after eating a can of wet food. I have the vet bills/ reciepts... and 3 out of the 4 unopened cans.
If there is a suit out there, how do I locate it and what will I need to provide?

His symptoms where as follows:
Vomiting
lethargy
failure to eat or drink
no longer relieved himself
collapsed
I took him to the vet and they kept him for a week on an IV and a catherter, gave him antibiotics and didn't think he would live.

Someone else posted this the other day so I copy and pasted it for you
There are groups presently getting togeter for a possible class action suit against menufoods and other parties responsible for this despicable tragedy. I sooo hope that your kitty will bounce back - some cats have, depending on the amount of tainted food they ingested. Check out the following:
(1) www.Pet Connections.com
At PetConnection, we are tracking the number of sick pets, and we're asking for your help. We're also keeping on top of the situation on our Web log.
Report a sick pet to our database
Find out the latest on our blog
Check the list of recalled foods
PetConnection's Dr. Marty Becker explains what pet-lovers should do
--------------------------
(2) MenuFoodsClassAction@yahoogrou...
Description
This group is for pet owners that have lost a pet, or their pet became ill due to renal (kidney) failure from eating Menu Foods cat or dog food.
Check the website: http://www.menufoods.com/recall...
to see if you have fed some bad food to your pet.
If your pet has died, try to do the following:
- Save the food package
- Save your receipt from where you purchased the food
- Save any vet bills
- Save any burial bills
- Find a picture from when your pet was alive
- Take a picture of your deceased pet
- Journal the loss of your pet (pain & suffering)
- Some have suggested to have a necropsy done on your deceased pet
I know that some of the requests above are odd. But we need to hold Menu Foods accountable for their actions.
Signs of renal (kidney) failure
- Increased water consumption
- Increased urination
- Loss of appetite
- Depression
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Bad breath
- Eating cat litter or sand
Treatment
- Request that your vet do blood work and check the kidney levels
- Put your pet on IV fluids (a vet can send you home with an IV kit to DIY)
- Feed them renal pet food (force feed with a giant syringe if needed)
- Give kidney medication
*Note: I am not a vet or attorney. I am doing this because my good friend's cat passed away due to renal failure from eating tainted food. This group will eventually be turned over to a class action attorney once there is enough people coming forward.

First you did not say what your pet was ill with. If its not the symptoms already proven to be caused by this poison, your chances of proving a suit arent good. Depending on the state you live in, you may be able to sue if you have proof this was the cause of your pets illness, but be aware that most state laws see pets as property, so you may be able to be reimbursed for the medical costs, but you will not be able to sue for any type of emotional distress or damage. Considering the cost of a law suit, it may not be financially in your best interest to try. Remember that you would have to be able to prove that Menu foods either knowingly put this toxic food on the market, or had negligently not done all they could to assure the food was healthy. Considering that the poison they think did this is illegal in the US, there would have been no reason to expect them to test for it.

Yes a law firm in Windsor Ontario Canada has started a suit for millions claiming the company knew there was a problem but did nothing. I read the Windsor Star every morning and that's where I seen it .

more than likly there might be but on the news they said that unforuntaly pets and property they arent like kids. which i think is such crap... but they also said that you cant put a price on a pets life (just like you cant put one on a persons life)... hopefuly there will be i think that i everyone who feed their dogs these should get money to help them pay there vet bills and help to put the animals that did lose their lives to rest... it was a series of unfortunate events and cost many of our beloved pets lives... and sorry for the ppl that lost there pets, but i am happy that none of my pets so far have been affected by this and for everone who lost their pets i hope that the company will help you with the fincial burden they caused

check the numbers on the cans to be sure they are part of the food that was recalled. Just because the name on the label is one of the brands recalled, does NOT mean it is part of the recalled batches of food.

it will probably be made a class action by the numbers of cases; contact your attorney general's office of your State for starters ; someone just emailed me that there was a news article that the food was tainted with rat poisoning
