Okay I have seen the movie so I can at least comment from a knowledgeable position. The movie is not meant to be an accurate depiction of Iranian or Persian civilization, it is however meant to be an accurate portrayal of the graphic novel "300". It is meant to be dark and ominous with strong contrasts, which it is for the most part. In the film Xerxes is portrayed as being nearly eight feet tall and adorned with various piercings. This is in no way an accurate depiction of Xerxes as he really was but is a pretty accurate to the way he was depicted in the graphic novel. If you want to see a more historically accurate depiction of this event you should find a copy of the movie "300 Spartans". Which interestingly is what the author of the graphic novel based his book upon.

I have never seen depictions of ancient Persians as africans. I'd like to know from what idea did they draw that reference.

I almost enjoyed the movie, but it was really illogical. I can't turn my brain off so easily, though I try.

*And why the stark contrast? Strong, virile anglo men vs. evil dark skinned monstrocities? Seemed like overkill to me, to the point of racism. And hey, I have never been one to use that word lightly.

Well I am a grown up and know the difference between movies and reality so I don't care. It is fiction for ***** sake. However they are a very war like people even today.

It's just a movie, noone said it was a movie based on reality, noone said it was a biography. it's just a movie, people should never take what is said in movies seriously, they are made for entertainment purposes only.
