Personally, I celebrate his whole body of work. It's hard to pick a favorite because I like so many of his poems. I would have to say Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking because it is one of those poems that I can read over and over again. I particularly like the "chanter of pains and joys" representing the poet...

because with this wonderful poem Walt captured the loss of a nation that had come through a terrible experience (civil war) then lost the leader who had led them through it.

Plus it sounds cool too!

The poem I have studied the most is OVER THE CARNAGE PROPHETIC ROSE A VOICE which is his most important statement on the sectional conflict and the Civil War, and also his most perplexing. I'm not saying its his BEST poem but it's his most important one for me.
