I assume Idia.....means India.
It can become modern...once all your corrupt political leaders are removed from office. They are the reason for the poverty, and hunger in your nation.

indian is an ancient land which already seen immense richness in the kind of people it was ruled by and the richness in heritage and in wealth. but those times have passed and new benchmarks have emerged. plus in the last thousand years the fall has been rapid. now you see that there is degeneration in the value systems and the population [plus density] has gone beyond control to really conquer anything without any side effect. whether the current spate of capitalist ideologies implemented with vigour by our governments is not going to be counter productive in the long term, but wipes out poverty and hunger is well worth a try. i think now the disparities have increased while we need to redifine poverty.
If you ask all the politicians at the helm, they will definetely say that it is possible to be a developed country as per the western model in a certain time span. one has to watch these concepts in different light and see if this going to benefit everyone [including the fragile eco system.]

It can develop and compete with any nation under the earth, provided the government changes. Not this party or that party. Democracy doesn't befit India. It has to be a Martial government. Under the baton of competent authority. Then only the brain drain will stop and we can develop ourselves and the nation into a leading nation.

Why do u say...other countries? India can develop according to what it thinks best for its people, environment & culture...'coz whats good for other nations might or might not be good for India. Having said that, I should also say this that we should have an open mind...we should never hesitate to learn from others....this land has always played a gracious host to people from other nations, religions, cultures....even though some of them took advantage of that hospitality for nefarious gains.
Also, we should elect people with visionary ideas as well as the will to implement them!

Roads : Cant do anything if the Govt does not take a strong action
Life: Upto the individuals
Hunger, poverty, disease: State Govt, Central, NGO's, individuals all have to work hand in hand
So you see... we cant just blame and point fingers at someone. Everyone is equally responsible
