i need to know if this will work before i put it together,

It will work, however, according to the specs on this replacement part for your model T2042 a 250 watt unit may be more appropriate :

I don't think you need to go with a 300-450, but since that eMachine model is rather old, I would say about 250-300w is fine. Anything more than that would be overkill - but it certainly woulnd't hurt the machine.

The main problem you're going to run into is finding one that will actually fit into the case like the previous one. Make sure it fits well and has the same connectors and you'll be fine.

Yes it will work but it will be very light on power. You will be able to run a hard drive and modem, a separate sound card and video card would be a problem, adding in a dvd burner would be a bad idea. Go with at least a 250 watt, if not more.

If this is a desktop unit you will want to go with a 300-450 watt power supply to avoid burning it up
