its only good if you really want to returnt he ball to your opponent. if your just going to stand in one spot and hope to ball will come within reaching distance so you may hit the ball, then this is not a good way to exercise no matter how much you paid for your equipment and clothes.
well it makes you dig for the ball a lot.

Tennis is a good way to exercise mostly because it gets you moving. And it's much easier to sprint short distances in random directions if there's a ball involved. Plus, there's the added 'girls in super mini skirts' part, which is always a plus.

The better the players are, the more intense and taxing the matches are.
As someone said already, you are in constant motion during points. We shuffle side to side along the baseline, come to net for short balls or volleys, then back again on lobs.
You use practically all your muscle groups during tennis.
During pro matches, it's estimated that players will *sprint* between 3 and 5 miles.

You do alot of running, mainly sprinting to get to the ball. This requires short bursts of energy similar to interval training. Tennis requires use of all parts of your body: arms, legs, and torso.
