If you are an hourly employee, your clock starts running when you first begin to work for your employer. If you are paid in a way other than hourly, that may not be apply. I don't believe your employer can require you to work for free.

At our company today all employees are paid as soon as they start work,loading trucks with the days job is the start of the work day so I think you either start looking around or have a meeting with your superior.
Is your company unionized ,did you sign an agreement upon starting that stated your agreement ? What is your position there
is it secure? A good employee G1 can object Helpers non licenced becareful /
