BOTH parties are bankrupting the country with the pork barrel wastes and mismanagement and squandering, while those funds can be better spent on the elderly, disabled, retired and poor on affordable housing, education, or simply better services for all Americans, like better roads, or to help offset the costs of expensive medicines for those in hospitals... (why don't all hospitals order their meds together and get lower prices for the patients?) It exists because WE, the voting public, allow it, and we do NOT demand its elimination!

Absolutely. They have tremendous power over our lives and wallets. Many get seduced by that power. As an independent/conservative, it infuriates me that the Republicans, who held the majority for over a decade, were just as big spendthrifts as the Democrats they criticize. When people go to Washington, they too often become members of that mentality, and far removed from their constituents. Basically, I can't see a hell of a lot of difference these days between either party.

this round was a little different than pork barrel of the past.. in the past people have just thrown in what they want.. a little extra for their home state.. a new program they were wanting... and sometimes to buy votes... ALL of this pork this time is to buy democratic votes....

but yes.. they all need to cut the crap out.. I think overall America is far more pissed at it's own government than any foreign nation.

No kidding. The Democrats have loaded the Iraqi war financing bill with tons of pork. Neither side can claim the high ground on this issue.

Yes.

And what are WE going to do about it?

Continue down the partisan path of ignorance and blind faith?

Or should we advocate for real political debate and the end of career politicians, lobbying, pork barrel spending, etc.

Somehow I don't think Americans are up for real change. But I sure would love to see it happen.

One is no better than the other. But I must laugh, because the Republicans have been practicing this tactic since Bush became president. It's nothing new! The Democrats are just turning the tables.

and btw - we are already bankrupt. Bankrupt AND broke.

Yes, however one side recently said they would not allow it and would look at every bill. Of course except for their own. Democrats would not be able to pass this bill with out buying the votes through funds going to Peanut Stocking, and Spinach. The President will Veto this crap bill though, unless congress thinks that is abusing his executive branch powers for some reason.

YES.

And THANK YOU for that important prepositional phrase that makes your assessment correct - - - "WITH THEIR TREMENDOUS PORK BARREL SPENDING."

That's ALL I'm saying. YES the budget is out of whack but put the blame where it belongs, on the SPENDING.

The Libs should be ashamed for trying to tie pork into the defense appropriations bill. When they were in the minority, they proclaimed they would never do this....

once again....the fringe left shows its true colors.
