I'm 38 wks today, yesterday I woke up, went to the bathroom, came out & my water broke all over the floor. It soaked my pajama pants, was running down my legs, I couldn't stop it & it stopped a few times and then would keep coming, even when I walked in the other room. I even put on a pad.
I called the Dr. who told me to come right up, I have 2 kids and my husband is in Iraq so it took awhile to get someone here to get the kids. By the time I got to the hospital the leaking had stopped (3 hrs later) but I was in pain and contracting, & the Dr. did a nitrozine test on the outside of my vg and said it was neg. He sent me home saying I had peed myself (I KNOW I didn't, this is gross but I smelled my pj pants and they smelled sweet, not like urine), since then I feel crampy and some contrax, but nothing major.

Has anyone had anything similar happen?? When did you go into labor after your water had leaked? I'm dilated to 2cm 50% effaced, 0 station. Please any input!

I had a simaliar worry, and had just peed, it smelt sweet due to all the chemicals in my body. If your doc thought waters hadn't broken (and he should know due to years of med school) it should be fine. He would have to watch any suspected cases due to risk of infection.

when I had my daughter, I was about the same as you, about 38 weeks. My water broke, I called the doctor who advised to go to the hospital to be checked. They confirmed the water did break with a test strip item, and I had to do a C-Section, because I wasn't dilated and did not feel any contractions although a monitor was registering the contractions that were occurring. Her head was up above the pelvic bone, I think that is why no contractions were felt by me. I would say, go to the hospital to check on your new child, make sure everything is okay, also talk with another doctor or doctors. The main thing is to make sure you and your baby are safe and well. Congrats.

The same thing happened to me. I was in bed and woke up with a little trickling of fluid. I knew it was time. My husband took me to the hospital and they had me there for about 4 hours or so with no pain at all. The nurses did the same test on me and said it was negative. They said that I probably I took my time getting ready to leave the hospital and then all of a sudden right in front of the eyes of the nurse The rest of my bag broke. They immediately started an iv to keep me and the baby hydrated and started the petocin since I would get no labor pains. They said that what probably happened was that I got a small tear in my waterbag. When it breaks completely or the leaking comes back call your doctor just to be on the safe side. Best wishes with your little one and congratulations. ;-)

I seriously think your water broke and it's very dangerous to be at home when your water broke.

From my last experience, i was sleeping in the car and woke up because my water broke. I went home and took a shower and try to freshen up before heading to the hospital. Prolly an hour later I went to the hospital. The nurse didn't some kind of test and told me I'm not ready yet and that my water didn't break yet and that i can go home. I disagreed with her and beg her to test it again. So she did some kind test ( maybe a limus or limuc test) and guess what? My water did broke. Alway trust your instinct. Doctor and nurse do make mistake. 30 minutes later contract started. I checked in at 7PM and delivered my son at 11:33PM. Are you hurting rght now? GO to the hospital right away if you are hurting? If you are bleeding that means you're in a danger zone. Good luck on your labor and I hope it's an easy one for you.

I second what maineems2004 said, I would definitely go to another hospital if at all possible. This is a case of it's better to be safe than sorry.

I hate to tell you but autumnofserenity is wrong!!! Those strips can be wrong. When I was in labor with my first, iwas tested using those strips by an experienced RN and she told me the same thing, that I had wet myself. 4 hours later when the doctor came in to examine me he asked when my water broke. The nurse said that it hadn't yet and he proceeded to tell her that it most certainly had. Come to find out that the bottle of strips that she used to test had been expired for a month. If the expiration date has passed, it's possible for the chemicals that are on them to be bad and not work correctly.

Again, i would much rather be safe and have this checked out in a more thorough manner and find out for sure that it's nothing.

Good luck and best wishes!

With both my kids.. my water leaked.. I could stop it and then stop it.. went in with both.. they did the strip test and said no my water was not broken.. I told them to look at it under the mircoscope..Amnio fluid will have a "fern" like appearance.. and YES, with both my kids it was fern like..so yes my water broke.. actually the doctors had to break the bag fully and then TRUE labor began.. SO do go back in... worth having them do the slide check..

"Another test that may be done is a ferning test. Amniotic fluid or fluid from the back of the vagina is taken with a swab and placed on a slide for examination under a microscope. Dried amniotic fluid has the appearance of a fern or branches of a pine tree. Ferning is often more helpful in diagnosing ruptured membranes than looking at color changes on nitrazine paper."

Hope that helps.. best wishes...

I was 37 1/2 weeks along, and I started leaking water. I looked all over on line, and the only thing I find was that I was peeing myself. It was completely humiliating. I didn't call anyone, or question it. Thinking it was "normal". 24 hours later, and after having back pain and a headache for 8 hours, I called my doctor. He told me to go to the ER ASAP. Turns out, my water had slowly leaked out, and my baby and I had gotten a severe infection. We had to be taken to a larger hospital that could supply us both with all the care we needed. Total time from water leaking started to premature delivery was 30 hours. I hope, by now, you have decided to go to the hospital, and all is well for you and yours.

Being 2 cm dilated means basically nothing after your water breaks. It's actually quite normal. This isn't your first so could be any time now or on the other hand could be FOREVER(or that's what it seemed like to ME) My first took 26 hours total labour but only 2 hours hard labour...on the other hand my 3(and last) took 20 minutes hard labour for a grand total of 2 hours total labour. both times I "leaked" and it WASN'T pee. It's normal. 2 of my friends had the same thing
...but results vary on when you might have it. Congrats!!

My sister-in-law had two sacs of water! Bizarre, I know. The first one broke and she went rushing to the hospital, only to be sent home confused. Later that week, a HUGE gush sent her back to the hospital. The doctor confirmed that she had two amniotic fluid sacs.
Hopefully this is all that happened with you, because once the sac around the baby bursts, labor should occur somewhat rapidly or there is a raised chance of infection to you and the baby.

I'm not sure,
my water leaked not broke, but i did dialate more. they kept me, finished breaking my water, and I had contactions for about 5 hours before I had a baby.

If you did not smell pee in your pj's, I would go call and then go into my OB's office and wait to see what he says now. All he can do is think you are silly, but who cares. ask him to explain how what happened could have happened. hopefully the dr in the hospital was not your regular doctor, that way you can get two doctors opinions.

When my water broke with my son, i was in labor for 5 days in the hospital. I would say your doc has lost his mind. You have had children so you know the diff. between peeing and water breaking. I was put on bed rest for those 5 days. I was told that it isn't bad for your baby to be in a dry womb because the fluid is regenerating itself all the time. Everything will be fine and congrats!!!!
