I really want to play co-op mode. do u have to beat crack of doom?

i was able to do it by beating the game. so i would definetly suggesting beating crack of doom, then plugging in another controller, and seeing if that works

no it's not necessary. on the main menu, it's written there co-op and you can use it even without completing crack of doom.

Well, last I checked,you have to beat Crack of Doom.
I had to. Maybe you could find a cheat or something to unlock it?

Yea you can just do co op from the start, its in the menu, try looking again.
