If I'm 8 weeks pregnant is it safe to lay on my stomach? And why do people say to lay on your left side? Would it hurt the baby if i layed on my right side?

I sleep in whatever position i can get comfortable in at the stage but when can I not lay on my stomach or should I not be doing this at all?

Sorry if I sound stupid its my first pregnancy and I get terrified of losing my baby or doing something that can effect its well being

* That is NOT a stupid question .. all first time mom's are concerned for their baby's! thats the sign of a good mommy! :)
You can sleep on your stomach for a little while longer ..
but, no, it will never squish your baby!
your baby is well protected in a bag of fluid .. it has no affect on him/her whatsoever.
You eventually will get to the point that you willl not want to lay on your stomach at all because your tummy is so big it's uncomfortable!
Sleeping on the left side is reccommended, because that is when the most amount of oxygen and blood supply is delivered to the placenta .. but sleeping on your right side will cause NO harm to you or the baby whatsoever.
I always start out sleeping on my left .. and always wake up on my right :)
As you get further along, and the baby gets heavier, you will want to avoid sleeping on your back because there is a (small) chance that the baby's weight can hit one of the main veins in your back and cut off your oxygen supply. But, according to stuides ... if your oxygen got cutt off, you would wake up and move positions way before there was enough oxygen loss to cause harm to you or your baby.

congrats to you! good luck! and God bless!

I'm also 8 weeks pregnant. Congrats to us!! This is my second pregnancy, the first ending in miscarriage. I can assure you that laying on you stomach right now is OK. And the only reason people say to not lay on your right side is because the main vein that carries nutrients from your body to the placenta is located there. But right now it's OK to lay however you feel most comfortable. Laying on your right side or stomach will not induce a miscarriage. The only real reason you should worry about miscarriage is if the fetus has an abnormality that will not allow it to continue to grow. But if your doctor did a level 1 ultrasound and you both at least saw a heartbeat you're OK. Don't worry so much!!! Women's bodies are made for this. The baby is so cushioned and protected where it is that you can continue your normal activities without worry.

Sleep however you are comfortable!!! It is impossible to "smash" your baby by laying on your stomach...trust me, it is well protected. However, as you get larger it may become more uncomfortable. The "recommendation" is to lay on your left side for optimum blood flow to the placenta. However, I am 24 weeks pregnant and can only sleep on my back. I have never heard of any complications arising to either the mother or the baby from sleeping on the back, although it too may become uncomfortable later in pregnancy. You won't lose the baby or affect its well being from sleeping in any position.

I have never been pregnant but I have heard that you should sleep however you can that's comfortable. Eventually you won't be able to sleep on your stomach. As for which side to lay on. It has something to do with blood flow. You will feel better if you sleep on one side over the other.

Firstly, it's normal to be scared.
It will not squash the baby. Lay however you can be comfortable, it will not hurt the baby.
Secondly lying on your left helps pull the pressure off the blood vessels in our abdomen, but at 8 weeks, your uterus is still so small, I wouldn't worry about it.
Lying on the right will also help circulation but not as much as the left.
Get comfy and enjoy it now! When you're too big to lie on your back (and your body will just tell you it's uncomfortable), you'll know it!!

There is no such as stupid question.

You can lay on your stomach until such time you dont feel comfortable ( feeling like you are sleeping on a round ball). Your baby is very protected at this stage, she/he is very small and the amniotic fluid is there for protection also.

Sleeping on your left side apparently helps with the circulation of more blood and your heart relaxation.

Talk to your doctor to see what is best for you. But, I know they say sleeping on your left side is best for you and your baby. I'm not sure why, but it's something to do with circulation. You may not be comfortable on your stomache.(Or , I know that I am not) and, I heard that it's not good to lay on your back, because it can cut off the air supply to the baby.

It will not harm your baby if you sleep on your stomach because the baby is very well protected in there.
Sleeping on the left side is preferable because sleeping on your back may not be so good if you suffer from acidity or heartburn, Sleeping on your right side may put load on your stomach I think.
None of the sleeping positions is harmful, just not so comfortable as sleeping on the left side, especially as the belly grows.

At this stage it is not important you can lie whichever way you want!
As your baby gets bigger, lying on your stomach is going to be very uncomfortable for both you and the baby!
Also when you get bigger(about 20 weeks), don't lie on your back for too long as the baby could push against its cord and restrict blood supply.
And the reason they say lie on your left is because there is a major blood vessel to the right, and if the baby leans against it it could restrict your blood supply.

You'll know when its no longer a good idea to sleep on your tummy. As for the left side sleeping: its best for circulation. Sleeping on your right side is just fine. Its not as good as the left side, but its still safe. Its sleeping on your back that can be cause for concern. It can cut off circulation to you and your baby due to increase pressure on a rather large artery. Best of luck
