No you don't need the Internet to use iTunes and an iPod.
If you have iTunes installed, just go to view and deselect the Ministore, but only if it is showing at the bottom of iTunes. You can then Rip and transfer tunes from your CD's or from your existing My Music folder.
If you don't have iTunes, then go to a friends house and download the latest version which at this time is "version 7.1.1.5" . The file is 36.1mb in size so will fit on a CD-R which holds 650mb. Also download a piece of software called "iDump" from www. download.com .
If you install both iTunes and iDump then you can "backup" your music from your iPod if iTunes ever crashes out! If you then copy the iDump.exe file to your iPods main Directory (whatever drive letter represents the iPod when plugged in) then you can also "share and borrow" music files between users without having to bother with copy control in iTunes. You can also give other people copies of your iDump.exe from your iPod, so they can do the same with theirs!

You dont have to have the internet to actually use the Ipod, but you do need an Active Internet connection to use Itunes, which is the program used to buy, and organize music.

You need the itunes software - that's all. All existing media files can be placed in the itunes library to download to your ipod by following the on-screen instructions.

it should work fine, you just wont be able to use the itunes store to downlaod music or update any software.
Looking on the apple site..... if you have itunes already installed your'e away and fine, if you havent got this installed and dont have the itunes software disc you will need to download itunes version 7.1 for this obviuously you will need the net and a min requirement of: -
Windows Requirements
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or later or Windows XP
500 MHz Pentium class processor or better
QuickTime 7.1.5 (included)
256MB RAM
Supported CD-R or DVD-R drive to burn CDs
Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music
But as i said, if its already there u can put as much music on as u like but u will have to input all song names album names etc etc

If you already have i-tunes than you can still up-load CDs onto your i-pod, but you will have to type the song details in yourself , which is a real pain!
