No, yuck.
I have three cats and you can't smell them. I ask people, so it is not because I am used to the smell.
We came up with the idea of an outhouse for the cats. My DH built a small extension on to the house and we have a kitty door in the wall, so the cat box is actually 'outside'.

No, LeRoy. The cat little box should not be the first thing you smell when entering the home. Maybe they need to change the type of litter they are using and clean the box more frequently.

Hahaha, we wish it wasn't, but I think it tends to be if it isn't kept up with (cleaning every day and litter changed every 3wks)...for whoever has the smelly kitty-box odor-elminating litters are best, and adding baking soda helps too I've noticed.

Yeah, I just go right up to it and bury my nose in it as soon as I walk in the door! I love that smell!
