Give me lil cute Hamster names for female and male as many as you can think of -
Jerry, Tweetie, Sylvester, Monty, Sweetie
What do they usually play with -
They need a smooth running wheel, wood chews and everynow and then throw in a toilet paper roll for them to climb through
What food do they like most-
Get a proper hamster food for their main diet (I like the brand Ecotrition), give them a few fresh leafy veggies daily or every other day (romain lettuce, kale, collard greens, celery) and for a treat a little piece of fruit (only about half a strawberry or one grape)
When would they start to breed - unless you specifically want to breed, only ever get one. they are very territorial and will actually fight to the death. it is pretty difficult to breed, so i suggest for your first hamster, not trying it.
How long can it live? 2-3 years
How often should i clean the cage? 1-2 times a week. Do not use pine or cedar bedding. Aspen is acceptable, but i like carefresh bedding as it has no smell or dust and is the best for the hammy.
How often shall i change the food even if its still full? every couple of days, never leave fresh food in there for more then a couple of hours. Change the water daily

As for your friends bleeding hamster, hamsters do not get periods like humans, dogs and cats as it would make them prime targets for hunting animals. My guess would be that he was caught on something when you picked him up, scratched himself or you squeezed too hard, or also he could be sick from an unclean cage. If a cage is left unclean, the fumes from the ammonia will kill a hamster.

email me if you have more questions

Some people say that boy hamsters are "sweeter" but I'm not sure how accurate that actually is. And a lot of people are just going off of opinion. I have a girl hamster and she is very nice and active. I think the best thing to go off of, is first of all, make sure the hamster looks healthy. It doesn't matter what gender it is, but more of its personality. When i looked at a hamster to buy, they had several at the store, and I fell in love with the one I got. I just liked her personality and coloring and everything. I think that's the best thing to go off of. And I don't know who said that the girl hamster has periods, but that isn't true. The girls dont bleed like human girls do. Some sites say that a girl hamster may experience a small amount of bleeding once or twice in it's lifetime. This has not happened with the hamster I have had for over a year.

hmm... i've had a hampster named
Cocoa
Happy
Moe
Larry
Lucky
Barney
Trouble
Pebbles

some of them LOVED to run on wheels and some not so much but it would be a good option to get a cage with a wheel because not only is it entertaining but it gives them excersise. I also had a cage that had tubes running all around... they loved that.

You can buy hamster food at any pet store... the dry mixed food is very important because it gives them nutrients they need. I gave my hampsters snacks that I bought at pet stores and once in awhile a pice of celery or some fresh veggies

Hampsters start breeding almost immidiately. As soon as they are old enough. If you arent prepared to take care of all the little hampsters then please dont breed. I accidentaly had a bunch of hampsters when i put 2 hampsters that I thought were males into a cage together... one turned out to be a female and the two adults plus the six babies was too much for me,..... and as for the adults eating the babies? that is NOT TRUE! I dont know where people get these ideas but if you separate them the babies will die. They need their parents to take care of them and if you separate the mom and babies from the dad, the mom may not take care of the babies without the dad

Hampsters can live for a very long time if you take good care of them. Im not sure how long but i know its quite awhile

You should clean the cage frequently. Dont let it get smelly and messy.

You should give your hampster a new bowl of food daily. This provides them with fresh food and helps prevent disease

.... you should also have a thing in the corner of the cage where the hampster can sleep and hide. You can use a cardboart tube or buy something at the pet store. Hamsters like to be able to bury themselves and hide when they are sleeping or scared

... The bigger the cage the better, hamsters like to run around, play, and climb

... if you want to take your hamster out and play with it, keep a close eye on it so it dosent get lost or hurt

... When you first get your hamster, dont handle it much for the first few days. Your hamster will be scared and handling it too much can make it sick

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!

It's been many years since I've had hamsters but they are delightful little pets!

You've asked many questions and I've provided a good website for you to learn all the answers.

As for the bleeding hamster...they are somewhat fragile creatures and when left out should be put into a hamster ball where they can run around without injury to themselves.

If you plan on breeding hamsters, the male should be separated from the young immediately after birth or a little before as he will eat the young. I hope this helps and wish you luck!

Read the following website, it should answer a majority of your questions. I had a pet hamster once, they like to chew so I don't recommend putting a towel over the cage because they will chew it and make it into a nest as they are nesting animals. They like to have things to climb and they do enjoy their wheel, however, they are nocturnal, so they will sleep all day and then come active at night while you are trying to sleep. They make all sorts of hamster runs for them to play in. They are cute but don't offer much in the way of play or interaction with a human.

Good luck on getting a hamster.

Honestly, the names you can create for yourself. I've had hamsters named everything from Cinnamon to Guido Sarducci and Albie (for Albert Einstein). Here's a few really good sites for basic info, and a quick google search leads you to tons more. ;) Good luck!
