Dry erase markers should do the job, and you can get them at Walmart.

There is a product called "Car Chalk" that I think you can get at Wal-mart or places like Party City or similar places. It is safe for your car.
Don't use shoe polish. If it gets on the paint it can damage the finish.

I've seen it in Kragen's, though not all stores have it. It'd be in the signs section (like "For sale!" and such).
